Japan golf in five minutes

The things worth knowing before you play.

Japanese golf is welcoming once you understand the rhythm. You do not need to memorise every custom—just arrive prepared, follow the club’s guidance and leave enough time for the whole day.

01

Make it a full day

Many traditional rounds pause for lunch between the front and back nine. Leave room for changing, bathing and the return journey.

02

Arrive before your tee time

Reaching the clubhouse 45–60 minutes early is a sensible target unless your course tells you otherwise.

03

Dress one step smarter

A collared shirt, golf trousers or tailored shorts, socks and proper golf shoes are the safest choice.

04

Expect metres, not yards

GPS carts are common, but cart rules, caddie service and English settings vary by course.

05

Keep personal items with you

Staff may unload and prepare your golf bag. Carry valuables, shoes and your personal tote yourself.

06

The bath is optional

Use the clubhouse bath if you wish, or simply change and meet your chauffeur at the agreed pickup point.

07

Decide with a better forecast

Review the latest forecast and course notices before Octoshell Japan’s 7-day free-cancellation deadline.

Your day, step by step

From pickup to return.

The exact routine varies by club. This is the shape of a typical golf day—and why the return should never be planned around 18 holes alone.

  1. 01

    Hotel or airport pickup

We work backwards from your tee time and allow for traffic and clubhouse check-in.

  2. 02

    Clubhouse arrival

Staff often unload golf bags. Take your valuables, shoes and personal belongings inside.

  3. 03

    Check-in and preparation

Check in, use your locker if provided, change and confirm your starting course and time.

  4. 04

    Front nine

Follow the local cart and caddie instructions, keep pace and leave the course as you found it.

  5. 05

    Lunch break

Many traditional Japanese rounds include a scheduled meal before the back nine. Timing is set by the club.

  6. 06

    Back nine and clubhouse

After play, check your clubs, change, dine or use the bath before meeting your chauffeur.

  7. 07

    Return journey

Your pickup point and return plan are confirmed in advance, with practical flexibility for the day’s finish.

Clubhouse confidence

Your first visit, made simple.

At many clubs, staff unload and prepare your golf bag when you arrive. Carry your valuables, shoes and personal tote inside, check in, then follow the clubhouse team’s directions.

Before leaving, check your club count and name tag.

Safest dress

Collared shirt, golf trousers or tailored shorts, socks and proper golf shoes.

Best avoided

Denim, T-shirts, sandals and overly casual arrival wear.

On the course

Keep pace, repair pitch marks and divots, smooth bunkers and keep noise low.

The bath

Optional. Wash before entering, wear no swimwear and keep towels out of the water.

Course procedures and dress codes vary. Your golf club’s own confirmation always takes priority.

Private golf transfer planning

Your tee time is fixed. Tokyo traffic is not.

Octoshell Japan works backwards from the course and tee time, allowing for traffic, check-in and the exact number of players, golf bags and suitcases. We also confirm where and how the return pickup should work.

Plan your golf transfer

Weather and cancellation timing

Plan early. Decide with better information.

Golf trips may be booked months ahead, while useful weather information arrives much closer to the day. Octoshell Japan offers free cancellation 7 or more days before pickup. Later cancellations are charged at the published tiered rates, so review the forecast and the course’s operating status as early as possible.

Golf-course cancellation fees are separate and follow the policy of the course or booking provider.

  1. 01

    When booking

Confirm the course, tee time, players, bags and transport plan.

  2. 02

    7 days before

Check your plans before the free-cancellation deadline: at least 7 days before pickup.

  3. 03

    Closer to play

Keep checking the forecast and course notices. If plans change, contact us promptly to confirm the terms for your reservation.

Group coordination

20 golfers. One coordinated plan.

Octoshell Japan has served golf groups of up to 20 players, planning passenger transport and golf-bag space together.

The brief
Coordinate the players, golf bags, hotel departure and return journey as one group movement.
Our response
We coordinated passenger vehicles and an additional Toyota Hiace dedicated to the golf bags, planning around equipment as well as passenger numbers.
The outcome
Passenger transport and the dedicated bag vehicle were coordinated within one pickup and return plan.

Large-group arrangements are individually quoted and subject to vehicle availability. Vehicle numbers and equipment space are confirmed for each itinerary.

From our booking desk

A typhoon forecast changed the golf plan.

A guest with a prepaid golf transfer asked what would happen if severe weather cancelled their round. Here is how Octoshell Japan handled the request.

The concern
Would transport cancellation fees apply if the course officially closed, even at short notice?
Our response
For this reservation, we confirmed by email that an official weather-related course closure would carry no transport cancellation fee. We also explained how to notify us and offered a revised itinerary, with any price difference agreed separately.
The outcome
The guest later confirmed their golf booking was cancelled and requested cancellation of the transfer. That same day, Octoshell Japan emailed confirmation that a full refund had been processed. The card issuer’s settlement time still applied.

An anonymised account based on our booking correspondence. This was an individual arrangement, not an automatic weather-refund policy. A forecast alone does not confirm course closure; cancellation terms and any exceptions must be confirmed for your reservation.

Still arranging your golf day?

We know where transport ends.

Octoshell Japan does not directly sell golf packages or reserve tee times. If you need course, accommodation or itinerary support, we can introduce a licensed travel partner.

Japan golf FAQ

Answers before the first tee.

Can international visitors play golf in Japan?

Yes.

Many courses welcome international guests, although booking methods, language support and access rules differ.

Confirm the individual club’s requirements before travelling.

Can Octoshell Japan reserve my tee time?

Octoshell Japan provides private chauffeur transport and does not directly sell golf packages or reserve tee times.

If you need course, accommodation or itinerary support, we can introduce a licensed travel partner.

How early should I reach the clubhouse?

A 45–60 minute allowance is a sensible target for check-in, changing and preparation, unless your course confirmation specifies another arrival time.

How long does golf take in Japan?

Treat it as a full-day outing.

Travel, check-in, two nine-hole sessions, a possible lunch break, changing and the return journey all need to be considered.

Is there always a lunch break after nine holes?

No.

It is common at many traditional courses, but some offer through-play or use a different schedule.

The clubhouse controls the day’s timing.

What should I wear?

The safest choice is a collared golf shirt, golf trousers or tailored shorts, socks and proper golf shoes.

Avoid denim, T-shirts and sandals.

Your course’s own dress code always takes priority.

Will the cart GPS work in English?

Many courses use GPS carts and some offer language settings, but this is not universal.

Distances are generally shown in metres.

What happens to my golf bag on arrival?

At many clubs, staff unload and prepare golf bags.

Keep valuables, shoes and personal items with you, then follow the clubhouse staff’s directions.

Is the clubhouse bath compulsory?

No.

You may use it, shower or simply change.

If you enter a shared bath, wash first, do not wear swimwear and keep towels out of the water.

Can the vehicle carry players, golf bags and suitcases?

Usually, but vehicle fit depends on the exact number and size of bags, travel covers, suitcases and passengers.

Tell us every item so we can confirm the vehicle before quoting.

Can we travel directly from Haneda or Narita?

Yes.

Airport pickup can be planned when the arrival time, terminal, flight details, player count, golf bags and luggage are known.

What if the round finishes later than expected?

Tell us whether the return time is fixed or should follow the end of play.

We confirm the waiting and return arrangement in your quotation.

What happens to my golf transfer if the course closes due to a typhoon?

Contact Octoshell Japan promptly and share any official course notice so we can confirm cancellation or itinerary-change arrangements for your booking.

A rain or typhoon forecast alone does not confirm course closure.

Standard cancellation terms apply unless an exception is confirmed for your reservation.

In our September 2026 case, we agreed an individual arrangement and later emailed confirmation of full-refund processing; this is not an automatic weather-refund policy.

Golf-course fees are separate.

Read the weather-cancellation case
Can you arrange golf transport for 20 players and their golf bags?

Yes.

Octoshell Japan has served groups of up to 20 golfers using passenger vehicles and an additional Toyota Hiace dedicated to golf bags.

This is a coordinated multi-vehicle arrangement, not the capacity of a single vehicle.

Send the player count, golf bags and travel covers, other luggage, course, tee time, pickup location and return plan.

We confirm the vehicle allocation, equipment space, availability and individual quotation before booking.

Read the 20-player group case
Are golf-course cancellation fees included in Octoshell Japan’s policy?

No.

Golf-course fees are separate and follow the rules of the course, travel agency or booking provider.

Octoshell Japan’s cancellation policy applies only to the confirmed chauffeur service.

Which areas can you serve?

We can quote golf-course transfers from Tokyo, Haneda and Narita to destinations across the wider Kanto region, including Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma.

What information should I send for a quote?

Send the course name, tee time, pickup address, player count, golf-bag count, other luggage and your preferred return plan.
